This has been a long journey. I had so much to express, yet I struggled to find the right way to frame it. What you see here is the culmination of that process, a reflection of where it all began and how it ultimately came together. The theme for this project was “Out of Place,” and I wanted it to be deeply personal.
Intellectualization is what happens when, rather than truly feeling our emotions, we rationalize them. We attempt to make sense of our feelings, but in doing so, we often avoid actually experiencing them. As I am growing beyond this tendency, I felt compelled to reflect on it through this painting.
